In the Spring of 2013 The Indianapolis Propylaeum, Inc., a women’s organization founded by May Wright Sewall in 1888, merged with The Propylaeum Historic Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation.
The blended organization welcomes both men and women members who share in the mission of:
To maintain and preserve the Propylaeum.
To present the Propylaeum to the public and to increase awareness of the Propylaeum’s historical significance in advancing educational and cultural opportunities for women.
To provide a historically significant place where the public, particularly Indianapolis area residents, may enjoy literature, music, science and the fine arts.
To cultivate a sense of civic responsibility.
To foster culture and promote educational opportunities and provide scholarships from time to time.

Our beautiful Victorian Home was built in 1890 for $125,000 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Our well-maintained facility has five meeting rooms, six private overnight guest rooms, a third floor ball room, and a professionally licensed kitchen. We are located in the Old Northside Neighborhood. Every effort has been taken to preserve the original integrity with historically correct restoration and decoration while incorporating modern day amenities to enhance the comfort of our members and guests.
