Nestled in The Old Northside historic neighborhood, only a five-minute drive from Downtown Indianapolis, The Propylaeum is a vital part of the city's future as well as a cornerstone of its history. Our expansive grounds include an 1890s Victorian Mansion and Carriage House, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
The beautifully maintained facilities have hosted hundreds of special events since 1924. Events here range from fundraisers, bridal showers, classes, corporate dinners, weddings, educational seminars, and everything in-between. Our expansive amenities offer guests the comfort of being able to plan a full-scale event with few other vendors, while our flexibility allows for partnering with a whole team of experts to make your event perfect.

Our stunning 1890s Victorian mansion makes the perfect backdrop for any elegant affair. From the hand-carved dark wood grand staircase in the foyer to the alluring ceiling murals, our 16,000 square foot home offers delicate details inside and out. From the wrought-iron fence surrounding the property to our iconic front doors, there are endless photo opportunities when you host your special event with us. Complete with unique, antique furnishings, the Propylaeum is perfect for couples looking for a timeless, elegant estate just minutes from Downtown Indianapolis.
The Propylaeum has varied spaces for ceremonies, receptions, and showers to accommodate everything from an elopement, a traditional wedding, to a 150-person gathering. The front parlors of the mansion are perfect for small ceremonies and gatherings, while the carriage house can hold larger indoor weddings and a dance floor. Our elevated porch overlooks an expansive lawn, ideal for outdoor soirees with room for tented parties. With flexible access to the entire mansion, carriage house and grounds, couples can customize where they would like each event element, allowing each event to be unlike the last.

Are you looking for the perfect location to host your next board retreat? Look no further! The Propylaeum has four rooms on the first floor that can be divided into individual break-out rooms, in-house AV, and a Tea Room to serve mid-day snacks and lunch. Our team will work with you to create the perfect set-up for your team, whether that’s a board room set-up, panel event on a stage, or individual breakout rooms. Is your team coming in from out of town? We have 6 overnight bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 guests at the Propylaeum!

Do you have a required caterer for private events?
We work exclusively with Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering and have a specially curated menu just for Indianapolis Propylaeum clients. Clients will work directly with the Jacquie’s team on menu options, bar packages, and pricing. Not seeing a menu selection that looks just right for you? Reach out to the catering team and they are willing to do everything they can to meet our client’s needs!
The Propylaeum allows beer, wine, and liquor, and we can accommodate plated meals, buffet-style, cocktail receptions, and family style options. While our exclusive caterer is the required caterer for all food and beverage needs, dessert can be provided by a 3rd party vendor.

Where can my guests park?
We have an on-site parking lot available to guests with 45 spots. Additionally, there is free street parking along Delaware and 14th streets.
What is the accessibility of the facilities?
The Propylaeum is handicap accessible on the first floor via a ramp on the south side of the mansion. The 2nd and 3rd floors are only accessible by stairs. The carriage house first floor has two small steps up into the building, and the 2nd floor balcony area is only accessible by stairs.
What is the venue capacity?
The Propylaeum can accommodate up to 120 guests in the mansion for a seated meal, and up to 60 guests in the carriage house for a seated meal. The mansion can accommodate up to 200 guests for a reception/mingling style event. For theatre-style seating, the carriage house can accommodate up to 120 guests and the Clubroom of the mansion can seat up to 100 guests. The lawn can hold up to 600 people for a cocktail style reception.
